We are set apart from our neighboring resorts by: our dock system - our pool with wading pool - our playground - cleanliness of our cabins, grounds, and facilities - friendliness of our staff - quality and cleanliness of our rental boats - resident fishing guides - availability of bait and gas - competitive pricing. I will think of other things as we go along, these are some things off the top of my head. One of our strengths in the past was our longevity in the industry. If we are trying to sell, probably can't list that as an item...
Our target market is the fishing family. It is also the fishing groups in the spring and fall. 99% of our guests fish at some time during their stay.
I sort of inherited the business. My family purchased the resort in 1976. My wife and I took over in 1999.
We love the resort based on the quality environment for raising a family. Owning a resort taught our kids how to interact with all sorts of people. They have been extremely successful in their careers because of this. We also relish the guests who come year after year. They are more like friends that business. The relationships we have cultivated over the past 45 years are more valuable than money.
The functions we need: access to our availability, fishing report, and we would like them to be able to request a reservation via the website. We need the booking process to go through us because there are a lot of times when they request space that is not right for them or available at the time they want to come. For instance, they may want a Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in the middle of peak season, thereby breaking up two potential weekly rentals. We want to have a place where we can offer last minute deals, post some pictures, and any other things that may happen during the season.
