Fishing
Report
August 15,
2008
The walleye
fishing has
started to
make the
move toward
some fall
patterns.
The fish are
still being
caught on
the bars,
but the
shallow bite
has been
more and
more
prevalent.
Raven's
Point, Stony
Point,
Highbanks,
Little Stony
Point, and
the North
Shore have
all been
producing
walleyes
along the
edge of the
weeds. The
deeper the
weeds, the
better for
consistant
action.
The
northerns
are doing
better this
week.
Casting and
trolling
traditional
baits are
working
well.
Perch
fishing has
improved
dramatically
this past
week. I
fished with
David Vonch
from Red
Wing, MN
this week
and we
caught our
40 perch
each day.
The last
day, fishing
on a rock
bar, we got
40 of the
nicest perch
I have seen
since we
caught the
pre-spawn
perch on
opener.
Musky Dave
Groeneveld
and his
brother Don
caught and
released
three more
muskies this
past week.
The largest
being a 45"
beauty.
All things
said, this
fall is
shaping up
to be a much
better time
for fishing
than last
year. Our
specials are
coming up
including
the Labor
Day special
where you
arrive on
August 23
and stay
until Labor
Day, nine
days, and
only pay the
weekly
rate! Also,
starting on
Sept. 13,
our fall
discount of
20% off
cabin rent
kicks in.
If you
haven't made
the trip to
Winnie yet
this year,
now is the
time to book
for fall.

Fishing Report
August 10, 2008
Walleyes,
Walleyes, and
more Walleyes!
The fish are
being caught
shallow, deep,
and in between.
Trolling,
rigging, and
jigging are all
producing fish.
It is the best
year for
walleyes I can
remember and I
have been here
for 30 years!
The Musky
fishing this
past week was
outstanding.
The Johnson
family boated
six fish between
40 and 45
inches. Musky
Dave and his
brother Don
caught and
released three
fish in that
range, as well.
There have been
other reports of
seeing fish and
fish lost! Most
of the fish are
being caught on
black Suicks.
Northern fishing
is not what you
would expect
this time of
year. They are
active and some
are being
caught, but the
quality isn't
what we are
accustomed to on
Big Winnie.
Perch continue
to be elusive.
I am going to go
exploring this
front, and see
if I can find
some nice perch
this week.
My
littering case
was dismissed
out of court, in
case anyone was
interested.
Those donations
toward my bail
that all of you
sent will now be
used for green
fees!!!
All in all,
fishing
continues to be
a "stone cold
lock" on Lake
Winnie right
now. I see it
continuing until
ice up. Give us
a call for
available dates
for your trip.

Fishing Report July
29, 2008
The walleye fishing
continues to be
strong. The
trollers are here
and did well off of
Raven's point this
weekend. Fish are
still being caught
off of the humps and
bars on leeches and
crawlers. We have
some wind the past
couple of days, so a
shallow bite
wouldn't be out of
the question.
Northerns are being
caught in the usual
places with the
usual tactics.
Trolling, sucker
minnows, and casting
are all catching
some fish. The
larger fish aren't
showing up in the
shallow water yet.
I think a person
could do well on the
bars for northerns.
The perch continue
to be tough to come
by. They are just
not schooled up.
You think you have
something going and
it fizzles out as
fast as it starts.
You then move and
start all over
again.

Fishing Report July 20,
2008
The walleye fishing has
come out of the mayfly
hatch and has picked
right up where it was!
Fish of all sizes are
being caught on the
humps in 18-25' of water
using rigs and leeches.
Andrew Ortloff boated
the largest walleye of
the season out of Four
Seasons at a whopping
29" long! He won't soon
forget about that
beauty.
Perch are still sporadic
with no concentrations
of larger perch showing
up. Some fish are being
caught on the rocks near
Raven's and Sugar
Point.
Northrn fishing has been
decent but most of the
fish are small. With
the late spring, the
perch spawned a couple
of weeks late meaning
the young of the year
perch are still out over
the open water. Once
they move into the
weeds, we will see
improved Pike fishing.

Fishing Report July 5, 2008
The walleye fishing
continues to be
extraordinary!! The main
bars and midlake humps are
all producing using rigs and
leeches or nightcrawlers.
The shallow bite isn't what
it was, but when the wind
blows, fish can still be
caught on jigs and shiners.
the mayflies haven't shown
up as of yet and the fish
have been very cooperative.
Some northerns have come in
this past week. Spoons and
crankbaits are the ticket
over the emergent
vegetation.
Not much on the perch front,
but I'm sure they could be
caught if a person went
after them. The walleye
fishing was so outstanding
most fishermen were after
them.
I have been fishing bass and
the weeds just aren't where
they need to be for the good
fishing to start.
An aside to the regulars, I
have my legal team ready for
court on Monday. I'll let
you know the results in the
next report.

Fishing Report June 28, 2008
The walleye fishing has been
nothing short of unbelievable!!
The mayflies have held off due
to the late spring and the
walleyes are being caught
shallow and deep. When the wind
blows, the shallows have been
good on jigs and shiners. When
it calms down, the deeper water
bars and humps have been
spectacular. There are some
mayfly larvae showing up on the
surface, but the graph isn't
showing them on the bottom of
the structure yet. If you like
walleye fishing, you need to
come to Lake Winnie, NOW!
The perch fishing has been good
for those who are interested.
The emerging weeds is the place
to find a nice school of perch.
Not much on the northerns yet.
We did have some musky
sightings, but the weed growth
is way behind.
We have openings for weeklong
and three night stays. Check
out our availability and give us
a call. See you soon.

Fishing Report June 20, 2008
The walleye fishing continues to be
some of the best we have seen on
Lake Winnie. We are starting to
fish the deeper structure and the
quality of the walleyes being caught
is unbelievable! It is not uncommon
for each person to catch a dozen
walleyes over 20". The majority of
the "keepers" (fish under 17") are
being caught in the shallow water.
Raven's Point has been good on the
rocks, as well as the Third River
area including Mallard and Stony
Points. I look for the good fishing
to continue for the next two weeks
as the mayfly hatch is well behind
schedule. Normally this time of
year we are staring the mayflies in
the face, but with everything
running two weeks behind, now is a
great time to come and experience
Big Winnie walleyes at their peak.
Perch fishing is picking up. Some
nicer fish are being caught where
there are weeds. I look for this
trend to continue as the weeds
develop.
Northerns are still behind. Some
are showing up on the bars while
fishing walleyes with minnows, but
with the lack of weeds, they aren't
shallow yet. We have some three
night stays available, so if you
would like to come up at the last
minute, give us a call. We can
steer you in the right direction for
some great fishing.
We had two muskies boated last
week. One 42" fish and one 43"
fish. Sorry Musky Dave!!!

Fishing Report June 1, 2008
The walleye fishing continues to be very
strong. The fish are being caught in
the normal spring spots. The west side
points have been going in 8-10 feet of
water. Jigs and shiner minnows continue
to produce. The fish have been running
all sizes. Alot of fish over 20" have
been caught and released. It hasn't
been a problem to find a nice meal of
keepers under the slot limit. It is
amazing what the slot has done for the
quality of the fish on Lake Winnie. I
think back 15 to 20 years back and if we
caught a 20 incher in the spring we
thought we had a trophy walleye. It
wasn't until we fished the deeper water
that we caught the larger fish.
Some northerns are showing up with the
walleyes, but nothing spectacular.
The perch are starting to school up a
little tighter. You can fish the same
area and catch a decent amount of
perch.
It is really the best time to fish Lake
Winnie for walleyes right now. Check
out our available cabins and give us a
call.

Fishing Report May 26, 2008
The walleye fishing right now is hot, hot,
hot!! This weekend as predicted saw the
shiner minnows move into the shallow water.
The walleyes were right on their tails,
hah! The windy weather made them very
active and all the guests at the Four
Seasons had tremendous success. The west
side was the ticket for the fish. Sugar
Point, Ravens Point, Sugar Bay, South of the
River, and all areas in between walleyes
were caught. Jigs and shiner minnows were
the bait of choice.
The perch are slowing down a bit. The spawn
is over for the perch and they have
scattered. A few are still being caught
while fishing for walleyes, but not near as
many.
Some nicer northerns were caught this past
week. Most of them were caught while
fishing walleyes. It would be hard to go
out and purposely catch one.
If you are thinking about a trip to Winnie,
now is definitely the time for you to pull
the trigger. The fishing should be awesome
the next two weeks. See you on the water!

Fishing Report 5/20/08
The walleye fishing has been very good this
past weekend. Fish were caught off the west
side points using jigs and minnows. The
water temp. is still very cold, but that
hasn't prevented the fish from biting. Our
large group from Waterloo Ia. and Moline,
Il., the John Deere Orioles, had their best
fishing in years. I look for the walleyes to
only get more active and school up tighter
as the shiner minnows move in the shallow
water.
The perch are about done spawning. They
have been very easy to catch while fishing
for walleyes. If you were to focus on only
perch, you could have a nice limit of very
nice fish.
Northerns are starting to show up in the
shallow water. Several pike over 26" were
caught over the weekend.
It should be a very good Memorial Weekend
for fishing on Lake Winnie. We have some
cabin space available. If you are looking
for a last minute reservation, give us a
call.
Fishing
Report Opening Day 2008
The lake had approximately 20% ice covered. I
had no expectations of good fishing this
morning. The water temperature in the river was
48 degrees and on the lake was a balmy 42.
The west side provided decent walleye action.
Many of the fish were in the slot and had to be
released. Most of the boats returned with
enough fish for a nice meal.
The perch were in shallow ready to spawn. In
fact, many of them spawned on the bottom of my
boat! It is snowing now, so most of the
fishermen are exercising good judgement and
waiting until morning to continue the season.
All in all, a very unexpected fishing report.
