FISHING REPORT

Fishing Report July 19th , 2010

The walleyes are going through a transition period right now.  Some fish are being caught on the deeper structures using rigs with leeches and crawlers, and others are showing up in the weeds and on the shoreline break using rigs and minnows, jigs and minnows, and crankbaits.  An exciting event happened Wednesday evening, the largest walleye I can ever remember, a 6# beauty was caught off the dock by one of the kids fishing.  He was really excited and a photo will be on the site in the near future.
Northern fishing is really picking up.  Trolling and casting in the weeds are producing some nice northerns right now.
Perch fishing is still great.  Some really nice fish are being brought in.  They are targeting the weed edges and the rock spots.  Jigs and fathead minnows are working right now.
Musky Dave's son Dan boated a 47" musky last week.  They will be on the move in the coming weeks.
All-in-all, a good time to be fishing on Lake Winnie.  Our cabins are pretty booked up for the coming weeks, but this fall is shaping up the be some great fishing.  Give us a call and take advantage of our fall discount!

Fishing Report July 10th , 2010

The walleye fishing continues to be very strong.  Target the midlake structures with rigs and leeches or crawlers.  The humps have been good when it is calmer and the main bars when the wind picks up.
Perch fishing is still very good.  Jigs and fathead minnows is the ticket for these tasty fish.  Weed edges and midlake humps have worked well.  The northerns are starting to pick up.  Some nice cabbage weeds are around and the northerns are starting to inhabit them.
All in all, a very good time to fish Lake Winnie.  We have some openings for last minute trips until the end of the month.  Don't miss out on the great weather and good fishing.

Fishing Report June 26th , 2010

The walleye fishing has been red hot on Winnie.  The fish are on the deeper structures and have been easy to target.  Rigs with leeches and crawlers are the best bet on these locations.  The Northern Humps have been the best when they are fishable.  Lots of eating size and lots of slot size walleyes are being caught.  The main bars when it is windy have been good also.
Perch continue to be plentiful and easy to find.  Jigs and fathead minnows are the way to go.  Shallow weeds and shoreline drops have been the preferred haunts for nice size perch.
Not much on the northern front as of yet.  If I was serious about fishing northerns, I would fish the deeper water with Jigs and shiner minnows.  You would probably catch a bunch of walleyes, but would get a northern or two mixed in.
There are some mayfly hulls floating on the surface right now, but no hatch in sight on the electronics.  The walleye fishing is outstanding right now.  If you are thinking about a fishing trip, give us a call.  We can steer you in the direction of the best areas to fish.

Fishing Report June 12th , 2010

The walleye fishing has been pretty steady.  The rain has also been the same!  We have been fishing mostly shallow water with the heavy overcast conditions.  Jigs and shiner minnows have been the best bait with the fish holding tight to the weeds.  It seems like wherever you find weeds you find fish.  We have made some trips out to the deeper bars with good success.  Not much to keep, but some nice photos of large walleyes.
Perch fishing has been very strong.  They are also in the weeds.  Some schools have been so large that literally 20 fish follow your bait up if it is hanging out of the mouth of the perch you are reeling in.  This is pretty fun to watch.
The nicer northerns are being caught on the deeper structures fishing for walleyes.  Jigs and shiners work nicely.
We have some specials coming up.  Take advantage of them.  Hopefully, we can shed the rain gear and get some nice weather.  The fishing should be good throughout the next month.  Check our available dates and give us a call.

Fishing Report June 5th , 2010

The walleye fishing has definitely transitioned into a summer like pattern.  When the wind blows, the fish can be targeted in the weeds.  When  it is calm, you have to fish the deeper structures.  This past week, I have started to use some rigs with leeches with mostly slot fish (17-24" )caught with this presentation.  The shiner minnows on either rigs or jigs continues to be the best way to catch the keeper walleyes.

Perch are still easy targets in the shallow water.  A jig and half a minnow is the best way to catch these tasty fish.
Not much on the northern front as of yet.  Most of the northerns are being caught by accident fishing for walleyes.
If you like to catch big walleyes, now is a prime opportunity on Big Winnie.

Fishing Report May 24 , 2010

The walleye fishing was slow after opening weekend.  We had five days with no wind and no clouds.  This weekend, however, found a nice chop on the water and boatloads of hungry walleyes.  Limits were the norm this weekend as the jig and shiner bite was like you read about!  The whole lake was producing walleyes with the west side providing action in all the normal spots.  This weekend should be outstanding as well with the nice forecast.
Perch are still going great.  One day we targeted them and caught a limit for six guys.  They were all in the 9-11" range.
Northerns are still being caught by accident.  Some good crappie fishing is going on if you are willing to travel a bit to the other side of the lake.
Bass season opens Saturday, and I don't think I will have time to take a few casts, but am looking forward to it, nonetheless.
If you don't have plans for Memorial Weekend, and like to catch Walleyes, now is the time to pick up the phone and give us a call.  We still have a couple of cabins available.

Fishing Report Opening Weekend , 2010

The opener arrived with clear skies and a nice chop.  The fish were cooperative on the entire west side.  Sugar, Raven's, Mallard, and Stoney Point were all good walleye spots.  The fish were in 7-13 feet of water depending on where you were fishing.  Fish were caught predominately on jigs an shiner minnows, but some were caught using  leeches and rigs.  The walleye fishing will only get better as the week goes on with fair skies and warm temperatures will raise the activity of the fish.  I look for some fantastic fishing up until Memorial Weekend.
The perch were biting a little shallower than the walleyes.  We brought in 59 nice perch on opening day and could have caught as many as we wanted.  The 6-7' shoreline drop north of Raven's held a lot of perch.
A few northerns were caught while fishing walleyes.  No pattern, just by accident.
We have openings for Memorial Weekend if you haven't made plans yet.  Give us a call and we will get you fixed up.
